This building is in part of the Roe Block, which was erected by Charles C. Roe, an insurance agent, in 1888 (you can see the datestone above the second storey windows). The building is on the Halton Hills Heritage Register. It may be on the site where the first merchant in the village, John Sumpter, opened his store in 1840, and also operated the post office when it was established in 1851.
