What is a BIA?

A BIA is an association of business and property owners who work together to support growth and development of local business in our Downtown core. All BIA's ultimately have the same goal – to increase traffic and sales in their downtown business district through the co-operation of each and every business. The BIA is an economic driver of Main Street as well as a social anchor to the community, providing a desirable, exciting place to live, work, and shop.

A BIA is built on Ontario’s past, provides shops and services for the present and preserves Ontario’s past for the future!

The Georgetown BIA

The Georgetown Business Improvement Area acts as a unifying body for its membership and works on their behalf to make Downtown Georgetown a desirable destination to do business while creating an inviting, thriving atmosphere to attract patrons and shoppers from the surrounding areas. The goals of the Downtown Georgetown BIA include the revitalization and preservation of Downtown through regular maintenance, facade improvement, streetscape, public art programs, special events and promotions, and municipal partnership.

Operations & Funding

The Georgetown BIA Board of Management oversees the annual operating budget for the BIA. Each year a budget is established and is presented to the BIA membership at their annual general meeting in February. Once approved by the membership the budget is then submitted to Town Council. A levy is set by The Town of Halton Hills and is applied to each property within the boundaries of the BIA. Every business within the Downtown Georgetown BIA area is automatically included in the BIA membership and contributes to the BIA budget through this special levy which is applied to their property taxes.

The Georgetown BIA has one full-time manager, 3 permanent part-time staff members and a number of casual helpers over the summer who assist with the Farmer's Market and events.
